International Travel with Artist Colors

This Summer I have a trip scheduled for Sicily and Sardinia. I am super excited and can’t wait to explore Sicily’s historic architecture and landscapes and Sardinia’s gorgeous beaches! I want to bring along my art supplies and I definitely want to pack light. Past travels abroad I have brought along my oil paints but this time I want to bring along watercolors. I don’t really have a travel set up for watercolors so I did some exploring online and tracked down an individual in Venezia who hand makes compact travel watercolor box kits.

It took some time to decide upon a model as there were several amazing designs to choose from. Ultimately I selected a compact model (see pictured) that is loaded with 18 half godet Winsor & Newton Cotman series watercolors, 1 porcelain water cup, 1 artist brush, 1 mechanical pencil by Faber-Castell, 1 Tombow dual brush, 1 Molotow blackliner, 1 Winsor & Newton putty rubber, and 1 Moleskine watercolor album. I will probably add a few Kolinsky watercolor sables to round out the kit.

The model is roughly the size of a trade hardbound book, so it will be the perfect size to stow in a carry-on and small enough to bring along on excursions effortlessly.

The watercolor travel box is currently being handcrafted in Venezia and will be shipping in a few days. I can’t wait for it to arrive and when it does I will do an unboxing update!
